Dr. Cates received her medical degree from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 2000.  To complement her extensive naturopathic medicine education, Dr. Cates has received further training in homeopathy, environmental medicine, and craniosacral therapy.  In addition to the extended homeopathic training at the National College of Natural Medicine, she has studied with internationally acclaimed homeopaths.  She also completed Dr. Walter Crinnion’s Environmental Medicine Program at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. To round out her education and better serve her patients achieve their health goals, Dr. Cates received a masters degree in spiritual psychology at the University of Santa Monica.

​Dr. Cates was the first woman licensed as a naturopathic doctor in California and also holds a license in Utah. She practices in Park City, Utah where she sees patients from around the world as the Naturopathic Physician.  She is available for both in-office and phone consultations.

During visits with patients, Dr. Cates’ assessment is catered toward the individual and their unique health needs.  She recognizes that symptoms are an indication that the body is out of balance, and her treatments are aimed at supporting the body’s innate ability to heal rather than simply suppressing symptoms.  Because her focus is patient-centered and holistic, she is able to treat patients with a variety of health concerns.

Dr. Cates is uniquely trained to utilize an array of diagnostic and therapeutic tools to reveal and address the underlying cause of each patient’s health concerns and help guide her patients on a road to optimal health.  She uses conventional and specialty laboratory testing such as food allergy and intolerance, genetic, digestive, nutritional, toxin exposure, neurotransmitter, and hormone testing as tools, along with physical exams and thorough health history intakes.  Nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, environmental medicine, craniosacral therapy, and emotional and lifestyle counseling are her modalities of choice.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Cates was twice appointed by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to California’s Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine Advisory Council and served on the board of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.  She currently serves on the Integrative Medicine Consortium.  She also is a frequent lecturer and writes articles on natural medicine for various local and national publications.
