Could meditation be the key to your success this year?
Studies continue to show the many benefits of meditation. One particular study* showed a down-regulation (suppression) of inflammatory genes in the meditators compared to the control group. And, at the start of the study there was no difference in the genes between these two groups. This tells us that we can actually change our genetic expression with things like meditation.
The goal of meditation is to focus and quiet your mind, in order to have greater clarity, self-awareness, and inner calm.
Meditation is a great daily practice. Even just taking a few minutes to take 10 deep breaths, where you focus on your breathing can be beneficial.
Tips for Meditation:
1. Choose a quiet place
2. Sit in a relaxing position
3. Focus on a word, music, or an object such as a candle
4. When your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back
5. Try tools such as meditation CDs and apps for support (such as GPS for the Soul)
6. Let go of expectations and relax
Research shows us that there are many benefits associated with mediation. Creating a habit of meditating might be what you need to help you have a more productive and successful year.
Studies show that meditation helps us:
1. lower stress
2. be more compassionate
3. achieve weight loss goals
4. improve sleep
5. lower blood pressure
6. boost our mood
7. curb addictions
8. lower yearly doctor costs
9. improve signaling connections in the brain
With all of these benefits, it’s a wonder why more people don’t make it a priority. If you are an experienced meditator, keep it up! For those that are new to meditation, I encourage you to give it a try. You might just make this year, your most successful yet!
